Among the initiatives to mark its 190th anniversary, Generali has launched the first edition of SME EnterPRIZE to promote the adaption of sustainable business models and to provide visibility for small and medium-sized European enterprises (SMEs), and stimulate public debate on the topic.
Over 6,000 companies took part, among which seven were selected as “Sustainability Heroes” – each from different countries – that have implemented notable sustainability initiatives in their businesses in three areas: environment, welfare and community.
The prize ceremony event had been held on the 28th of September in Brussels with the presence of Generali’s chiefs and also the representatives of the European Parliament and Commission. Generali is one of the largest global insurance and asset management providers. Established in 1831 and being present in 50 countries around the world, they have strong commitment to sustainability. The Enterprize award is a great initiative to encourage SMEs to develop sustainable business models and give them recognition.
Our firm, Virgin Oil Press Kft. – the producer of Grapoila products – is one of the winners!
We became ”Sustainability Hero” for our zero waste concept implemented in the cold pressing processes in the production of our oils and for our strategy in sustainability that includes an urban development program. This initiative enables people living near our headquarters to familiarise with permaculture, – a form of agriculture intended to be sustainable and self-sufficient, without resorting to chemicals, but using the achievements of modern science.
As a ”Sustainability Hero” we with our zero waste food production and our environmentally conscious approach – will continue to educate people about eco-friendly living and taking care of their environment even in urban areas (by giving practical advices about urban gardening, selling seedlings grown according to ethical principles, …). By showing a good example, as an eco-conscious business model we also try to encourage other SMEs to keep sustainability and our future in mind when planning and developing their businesses.
